Fare-free transit for Canadian Armed Forces members

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Transit (DRT), in partnership with the Region of Durham, is proud to offer a limited-time fare incentive for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, reservists and veterans.

To qualify for fare-free travel, eligible individuals must present one of the following:

  • Veteran’s Service Card (NDI 75)
  • Canadian Forces Identification Card (NDI 20)
  • CFOne Card
  • Temporary National Defence Identification Card (NDI 10) or
  • Appear in uniform or wearing service medals

Detour Update - Dowty Road and Hunt Street

When: Tuesday, October 21, 2025, until further notice

Routes: 917 and 227

Due to a road closure on Dowty Road and Hunt Street between Fairall Street and Harwood Avenue, Route 917 and Route 227 will detour.

  • Route 917 will detour via Station Street and Harwood Avenue.
  • Route 227 will detour via Station Street, Harwood Avenue and Bayly Street.

All stops on Dowty Road between Fairall Street and Hunt Street, and on Hunt Street, between Dowty Road and Harwood Avenue, will not be served.

Durham Region Transit to resume On Demand service on Tuesday, October 21 after temporary outage

Whitby, Ontario – The technical issue affecting Durham Region Transit’s (DRT) On Demand booking app has been resolved. Starting October 21, all scheduled DRT On Demand trips will resume as previously scheduled. Scheduled bus service continues to operate as normal.

Whitby, Ontario – Durham Region Transit (DRT) is experiencing technical difficulties with its On Demand Transit app. These issues are related to a broader issue through the vendor’s cloud infrastructure provider, impacting the app’s functionality.

Scheduled bus service is not affected by this outage and operating as normal.
