Whitby, Ontario – Earlier today— as part of the We’re on This Ride Together awareness campaign and in an effort to continue to encourage all passengers to wear a mask while using public transit—Durham Region Transit (DRT) unveiled its huge mask decal; to be displayed on three buses within its fleet.

The large mask decals, which span the entire front of the bus, will serve as a reminder to all those in the Region of the importance of wearing a mask when out in the community, including on board DRT buses.

In addition to the masked-wrapped buses, DRT will be distributing 2,500 free branded masks to residents of Durham Region. More information about the distribution will be posted to our website and social media channels in the coming days.

Face coverings or masks are mandatory when taking transit. For more information, visit DRT’s COVID-19 Information Page.

Quotes

“Durham Region Transit is one of the safest ways to get around Durham Region – safety measures are in place for passenger and operator safety. These highly-visible mask decals on the front of buses will serve as a powerful reminder to everyone throughout the Region to do their part to help stop the spread of COVID-19.”

-        John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer.

“Wearing a mask is a cornerstone of Public Health’s 3Ws recommendations – wash your hands, watch your distance and wear a mask. These simple hygiene steps are easy to take and are critical in the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. I urge you to do your part to keep our community safe and wear your mask when riding the bus.”

-         Shaun Collier Mayor of Ajax and Chair of the Transit Executive Committee.

“These buses wrapped with masks is a creative way to let our ridership and communities know that we continue to be committed to the safety of our passengers and operators during these unprecedented times. I’d like to thank our customers for doing their part by wearing their mask or face covering on board our vehicles so we can continue to provide safe public transit in the Region.”

-        Bill Holmes, General Manager of Durham Region Transit.
