WHITBY, ON – As part of its Five-Year and Rural-North Service Strategies, Durham Region Transit (DRT) is implementing significant improvements across the system including:

- Better PULSE service – Higher frequency, new traffic signal priority, and extension of the reserved bus lanes in Pickering.
- Over 4,000 more hours of new bus service.
- Over 2,000 more hours of specialized service.
- Eight new conventional buses and four new specialized buses.

In order to help continue building on the improvements introduced in 2015, DRT’s approved 2016 budget includes a five-cent increase to the cost of a single-trip PRESTO Card (e-purse) tap or paper ticket, and a 25-cent increase to cash fares. Monthly passes will see increases of $3.00 for adults, $2.50 for students, $1.50 for children, and $1.00 for seniors and Access Pass holders. Fare changes are effective May 1, 2016.
