DRT Staff celebrate the 2022 Safe Driver Awards

Whitby, Ontario – On June 11, 2023, Durham Region Transit (DRT) honoured 27 operators for their commitment to safe driving. The annual Safe Driver Awards acknowledges recipients who have achieved safe driving milestones—which are celebrated after every five years an operator meets the criteria.

The 27 recipients for the 2022 calendar year contributed to safely transporting more than 7.3 million passengers over 15 million kilometres across the Region. DRT applauds these operators for their commitment to safety.

The Safe Driver Award program awards drivers who have worked as a full-time operator for a minimum of nine months of the calendar year without any preventable collisions, Highway Traffic Act infractions and unsafe driving-related incidents. This standard of safe driving is highly respected throughout the transit industry.

To recognize a DRT operator for exceptional customer service, contact DRT’s customer service centre by phone at 311 (within regional limits), 1-866-247-0055, or by email at drthelps@durham.ca.
