Whitby, Ontario – As Durham Region grows, DRT is expanding to meet the needs of a more connected, mobile community. Investments in new services, improved connections, and major projects like the Durham‑Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit are making transit more accessible and reliable. Fare adjustments help support this growth—enabling service improvements, advancing sustainability, and building a modern transit system that delivers long-term value for customers across the region.

When: DRT fares are set to change July 1, 2026. As of this date, the fares will be:

  • Adult:
    • Single ride with PRESTO: $3.84
    • Monthly PRESTO pass: $138.24
    • Cash and Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.85
  • Youth (ages 13 to 19):
    • Single ride with PRESTO: $3.46
    • Youth monthly PRESTO pass: $110.59
    • Cash and Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.85
  • Seniors (65 and older):
    • Single ride with PRESTO: $2.53
    • Senior monthly PRESTO pass: $55.30
    • Cash: $3.55
    • Open Payment (debit or credit card): $4.85
  • Transit Assistance Program (TAP):
    • Pay-as-you-go with PRESTO (for the first 14 trips): $3.84
    • TAP monthly PRESTO pass: $53.76

Where: Fare adjustments apply to all DRT services.

Why: DRT is dedicated to improving the value of public transit by enhancing the transit network to deliver frequent and reliable services for residents and visitors. The upcoming fare increase is part of DRT’s 10-year service and financing strategy, which aims to increase bus service by 127 per cent by 2032; enhance service frequency and expand the transit network; explore new technologies; and invest in modern infrastructure. Customers are encouraged to pay and tap with PRESTO (saving up to $10 per week). This is the most cost-effective way to pay their fare. For more information regarding PRESTO, visit prestocard.ca/.
