Highlights from the December 2024 Transit Executive Committee meeting

Whitby, Ontario – On Wednesday, December 4, members of the Durham Region Transit Executive Committee (TEC) met to discuss various Durham Region Transit (DRT) initiatives and updates. Details and highlights include:

  • On Demand capacity

DRT’s On Demand service is operating at 240 per cent over capacity. In response to the increasing demand, capacity challenges will be addressed in the 2025 budget process. A detailed strategy will be presented early next year, providing opportunities for residents to engage through public forums and participation sessions.

  • Fare-Free Service on New Year’s Eve

DRT will provide fare-free transit from 7 p.m. on December 31, 2024, to 4 a.m. on January 1, 2025, on all services.

  • Service Change
    • Monday, December 2, 2024:
      • Minor schedule adjustments were implemented on December 2, 2024, to reflect the change in seasonal demand around specific days. Customers can check updated schedules on DRT's website or Transit app.
      • December 23: Regular service
      • December 24: Weekend service
      • December 25 (see below)
      • December 26: Special service (Boxing Day)
      • December 27: Regular service
      • December 28: Regular service
      • December 29 – 30: Weekend service
      • December 31: Regular service
      • January 1: Regular service (New Year’s Day)
      • January 2: Weekend service
  • Wednesday, December 25, 2024:
    • N1: 30-minute frequency all-day (24 hours)
    • N2: 30-minute frequency all-day (24 hours) 
    • 902: 60-minute frequency from approximately 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • 916: 60-minute frequency from approximately 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • On Demand will operate on a Weekend Service level
  • Monday, January 6, 2025:
    • Minor schedule and route adjustments will be introduced to enhance reliability. Full schedule details and updates are available at DurhamRegionTransit.com.
