DRT Fare Increase and Exchange Policy

WHITBY, ON, February 15, 2012 – Durham Region Transit (DRT) will implement the following fare increases:
  • Cash, tickets and monthly pass fare rates for Adult, Senior, Student, and Child fare categories will increase approximately 3%, effective July 1, 2012. The new fare structure continues to provide passengers with a larger discount when purchasing tickets or monthly passes compared to cash fare rates.
  • Effective December 1, 2012, the Specialized Services monthly pass will be withdrawn in favour of fare parity and terms of compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). All DRT monthly passes, tickets and cash fares, in all fare categories, adult, student, senior and child, will be valid on Specialized Services for registered Specialized Services passengers.
  • The fare increases were recommended to support increasing operating costs. With the exception of U-Pass programs and charter rate increases in July 2010 and 2011 and the Student cash fare in July 2011, DRT has not increased fares since July, 2009.
The changes were approved by Regional Council on February 15, 2012 following DRT’s Transit Executive Committee (TEC) approval on February 1, 2012.
