WHITBY, ON, December 22, 2009 – Durham Region residents celebrating New Year's Eve are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take advantage of free transit and extended conventional service hours sponsored by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and the Manufacturing & Technology Centre (MTC).
"DRT and the business community are working together to help region residents get home safely after celebrating on New Year's Eve," says Roger Anderson, Regional Chair. "DRT is pleased to partner with OPG and MTC to offer free service and encourage safe travelling during the festive season”.
The free transit on selected routes is available for passengers beginning at 20:00 on New Year’s Eve and is extended until approximately 02:00 New Year’s Day. The free DRT extended service will meet the last GO Train arrivals from Union Station on New Year’s Eve at the Pickering Station (01:49), Ajax Station (01:54), Whitby Station (02:01) and Oshawa Station (23:08).
“Plan ahead to be safe and remember after 8pm in Durham Region ride for free with DRT,” says Ted Galinis, General Manager, DRT.
“With OPG and MTC support and safe driving by DRT Operator’s the New Year’s Eve celebration is safer for all”, says City of Oshawa Councillor Nester Pidwerbecki, Vice Chair of the DRT Transit Executive Committee.
