2013 - 2014 Academic Year - Student Monthly Pass for Secondary School Students
The Public and Catholic Secondary School Boards serving Durham Region no longer purchase DRT Student Monthly Passes to provide or resell to their students.

The choice now available to any full-time secondary school student is the DRT Student Monthly Pass at $86.50. A student planning on using transit for more than 16 round trips in a month will find this option cheaper than using tickets. The DRT Student Monthly Pass has no travel restriction, meaning that it is valid for use at all times of the day and all days of the week. Further, within a few months, it will be made available on the PRESTO Card, offering unsurpassed convenience, including easy renewal from home, sharing allowed between students (travelling at different times) and protection against loss or theft.

School boards are changing the transportation services they will be offering to secondary school students with the start of the new 2013 - 2014 school year, including minimum distance eligibility. Families should enquire at their school or school board for more information.

DRT Service versus Yellow School Buses
  • Yellow School Bus and local school board cancellations do not apply to DRT Bus. Like all other DRT conventional public transit services, DRT High School Bus Service operate on bad weather days.
  • For information about yellow school bus cancellations listen to local radio stations or visit the Durham Catholic District School Board website at www.dcdsb.ca, the Durham District School Board website at www.durham.edu.on.ca or visit the Student Transportation Services of Central Ontario website at www.stsco.ca.
  • DRT is a public transit service and seating for all passengers is not guaranteed.  DRT Transit Supervisors and the Traffic/Transit Co-ordinator at individual schools monitor and review passenger volume on a regular basis to confirm student safety is not at risk.
  • Yellow school bus stopping laws do not apply to DRT buses, therefore, students must carefully watch for passing traffic when approaching for boarding and when departing from transit buses. Do not walk directly in front or behind a bus, wait for the bus to pass for a clear view of the road and traffic
  •
    Behaviour
For the safety and comfort of all passengers, profanity, vandalism, pushing and other inappropriate aggressive behaviour is not allowed on DRT buses.  In all cases of misconduct, school administration is advised.  In some circumstances, police may be called.

    Courtesy
  • Move to the rear of the bus to make room for boarding passengers
  • Stand back from the yellow caution line at the front of the bus to ensure the bus operator has a clear view
  • Do not distract the driver
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed on the bus
  • Head, hands and all objects must remain in the bus at all times
